Hanstholm
On the western coastline of Denmark, all the way up in the northern part of the country, lies the small fishing community of Hanstholm. In the years 800 to 1050, Hanstholm and the area around it were islands, and nearby was the gathering point for the Vikings for their invasions of England and France.
Today the town has a population of about 2,400 (2004).
In the end of the 20th century, Denmark's largest harbor was built in Hanstholm, and a larger, 10-fold harbor town, was needed. A new town was planned, covering Hansted, Gårddal and Nørby, and the new town was officially named Hanstholm.
Due to the direction of the ocean streams, the ocean in this area is prevented from freezing, and because of Hanstholms geographic location, Hanstholm is the perfect place to have an industrial harbor, open all year. Most of the people in Hanstholm make a living out of fishing or they work jobs in the harbor.
